  6. Whitethread Institute Whitethread Institute was founded with the primarily intention of catering for Muslim scholars, the ‘alims and ‘alimas who are the leaders of our community. Our estimate is that we have at least 500 ‘alims and ‘alimas just around the London area. There are many more who graduate each year from seminaries and universities around the United Kingdom and abroad. Many scholars find themselves doing involuntary bukhl (miserliness) with their knowledge because they have not yet unlocked their full potential. After several years of study they could possess vast amounts of knowledge. However, in the constantly changing world it is important to continue and update this knowledge, develop new experiences and learn better ways to impart and apply their wisdom to the masses. Alhamdulillah, there are many madrasas and seminaries, both local, national and international, but not many in the UK that provide post-graduate courses and advanced Islamic learning. For our scholars to keep abreast of contemporary challenges and remain relevant, a number of enhancement courses are necessary. Whitethread Institute has been founded with this purpose in mind. Our aim is that every scholar should become relevant. Every scholar should maximise his or her potential. Every scholar should be able to give something back to the community. We want to help ‘ulama discover their calling, whether it be for leading a community, youth work, providing adult education, teaching the next generation of leaders, or furthering Islamic academic studies.
  7. Life in occupied Palestine continues.... Israeli soldiers invaded, Sunday, two Palestinian schools in the al-Khader town, south of Bethlehem, in the occupied West Bank, and fired gas bombs. Local nonviolent activist, Ahmad Salah, stated that several army vehicles invaded the town before the soldiers surrounded two schools; one for girls and one for boys, and fired gas at them and surrounding areas. Salah added that the soldiers also invaded the two schools, in the Old City of al-Khader, causing anxiety attacks among the children. One of the schools had to shut down, and its administration sent the children to their homes in fear of further Israeli violations. On Sunday at dawn, Illegal Israeli colonizers caused considerable damage to several Palestinian cars in the Jaber neighborhood, near the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron city, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank. On Saturday at night, the soldiers shot a young Palestinian man in Husan village, west of Bethlehem. Furthermore, the army fired several missiles into areas in Gaza City and Beit Hanoun, in the besieged Gaza Strip, causing damage. On Saturday evening, the Israeli army injured eleven Palestinians, including three who suffered moderate wounds, during protests near the perimeter fence, east of Gaza city, in the besieged coastal region. Dozens of residents, including journalists, suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation. On Saturday at dawn, Palestinian Medical sources in Gaza have confirmed that a child, identified as Omar Hasan Abu an-Neel, 12, died from serious wounds he suffered a week earlier after Israeli soldiers shot and seriously wounded him, in the eastern part of the coastal region. 8. Israeli Army Prevents Farmers From Working On Their lands Near Salfit The Israeli army forced, Sunday, many Palestinian farmers to stop rehabilitation work on their agricultural lands near the main road leading to Qarawat Bani Hassan Village, west of Salfit in central West Bank, and tried to confiscate their equipment. Ibrahim ‘Aassi, the head of Qarawat Bani Hassan Village Council, said many Palestinians were working on their lands, and rehabilitating them when the soldiers invaded the area and stopped them. He added that the soldiers threatened to confiscate the agricultural equipment used by the Palestinians if they do not leave their lands. The army said the lands are in Area C of the occupied West Bank and claimed that the Palestinians cannot work on them. It is worth mentioning that the lands in that area are owned by fifteen Palestinians, who try to farm them, rehabilitate them, and build hothouses and storage rooms, but are subject to constant Israeli violations.

  20. Ministry of Health: 14 Palestinians Injured at Gaza protest, 5 shot with live rounds Fourteen Palestinians were shot, Wednesday, by Israeli forces, while drones dropped teargas canisters at those gathered at the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel, the Jerusalem Press reported. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, as of Wednesday evening 14 people were shot and wounded as they assembled east of Khan Younis, in the southern besieged Gaza Strip. The Ministry added that 5 were shot with live rounds, suffering moderate injuries; 2 were shot with rubber-coated steel rounds; and 7 were struck with teargas canisters. Quds Press’s correspondent said that the soldiers, stationed along the security fence stood behind earth mounds, far away from the protestors Medical sources also stated that the numbers may not be conclusive, due to the continued shooting and evacuation of the injured to hospital. Quds (Jerusalem) Press reported that thousands of Palestinians gathered at the mass rally, called for by different political factions in Gaza. On Saturday, Israeli forces opened fire at protestors east of Gaza city injuring 41 people, while one soldier was injured by a Palestinian protestor with a handgun. Source
  21. By: Dr. Belal Yasin for Middle East Monitor Many international organisations and human rights groups have confirmed that Israel imposes a racist — “apartheid” — regime which oppresses the Palestinians. This regime denies them basic rights and exposes them to repeated attacks by illegal Jewish settlers, which increases the tension in the occupied Palestinian territories and within Israeli itself. The Palestinians continue to be beaten, killed and forcibly displaced. On 9 May, the Israeli authorities tried to prevent thousands of Palestinians living in the 1948-occupied Palestinian territories — they are Israeli citizens — from reaching Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem to commemorate the twenty-seventh night of the holy month Ramadan, which is a sacred night for all Muslims. Mass protests followed, and Zionist settlers did not hesitate to attack the Palestinians with live ammunition and hand grenades. The Israeli government encourages a policy of divide and rule, pitting one ethnic group against another, but in this case the Israeli police arrested more than 500 Palestinians rather than the fully armed and dangerous settlers, not one of whom was detained. If nothing else, this was an indication of the institutionalised racism of the Israeli authorities against its own Palestinian citizens. Who are the Arab Palestinian citizens of Israel? Although Zionist terrorists displaced more than 800,000 Palestinians from their homes in 1948, a number of Palestinians remained in the occupied cities of what is now called Israel. According to the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), in 2019, the number of Palestinians who reside in the territory occupied in 1948 was estimated at about 2 million, one-fifth of the population of the occupation state. They live mainly in the Galilee, the Negev and the “Triangle”, Arab towns and villages adjacent to the Green (1949 Armistice) Line between Israel and the occupied West Bank. Forms of racism Although Palestinians in the 1948-occupied Palestinian territories have Israeli citizenship, they are faced with institutional racism. They are not regarded or treated as equals in any aspect of life. Dozens of laws have been enacted to reinforce this racism, most notably: The Jewish Nation-State Law, which limits the right to self-determination to Jews alone within the self-styled Jewish state. Muslim and Christian citizens have no such right. The Israeli Citizenship Law, which states that every Jew becomes an Israeli citizen the instant she or he steps on Israeli soil, no matter where in the world they are from. This law excludes Palestinians from their legitimate right to return to their homeland. Palestinian citizens do not have the same rights as Jewish citizens. Not only have the Israeli authorities enacted racist laws against the Palestinians, but state officials also issue statements that directly affect the Arab Palestinians and their lives, and incite settlers against them. The number of attacks on Palestinians has increased accordingly. More than 1,700 Palestinian citizens of Israel have been killed between 2000 and 2020. The Israel occupation authorities have refrained from conducting any investigations, which leads us to ask how the Israeli police can arrest the perpetrators of crimes against Jewish settlers often within 24 hours, while refusing to investigate or even care about crimes committed against the Palestinians, the perpetrators of which are subsequently usually registered as “persons unknown”? In its report dated 15 March 2017, the UN Social and Economic Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) answered this question, stressing that the Israeli authorities have established an apartheid regime that dominates the entire Palestinian people. The facts and evidence prove beyond reasonable doubt that Israel is guilty of the crime of apartheid as defined by international law. Human Rights Watch also accused Israel of apartheid in its report dated 27 April this year. Indeed, it accused the state of committing two crimes against humanity, by pursuing a policy of apartheid and persecution against the Arab citizens of Israel as well as the inhabitants of the 1967-occupied Palestinian territories. According to the facts backed up by the UN and other reports, the Israeli authorities practice the ugliest forms of racism against the Palestinian people residing in the 1948-occupied Palestinian territories. This reinforces the continuous tension and increases the chance of violence. The UN and its member states are legally obligated to take urgent action to end all forms of apartheid and take appropriate steps against the guilty party. Racism is at the very heart of Israel; its impunity must end. Source
