The Palestine Narrative changing through the El-Kurd twins Palestinian rights activists Muna and Mohammed El-Kurd, whose family faces forced displacement from their home in the occupied East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah, have been named to TIME magazine’s annual list of the 100 most-influential people in the world. The twins, aged 23, earlier this year became the faces of a global campaign to halt Israeli efforts to forcibly displace Palestinians from Sheikh Jarrah to make way for Jewish settlers. sraeli forces detained and questioned the siblings for several hours over their activism in June. “Through online posts and media appearances, sibling activists Mohammed and Muna El-Kurd provided the world with a window into living under occupation in East Jerusalem this spring – helping to prompt an international shift in rhetoric in regard to Israel and Palestine,” the magazine wrote about the siblings. In a statement on Twitter on Wednesday, Mohammad El-Kurd said that although being named to the list was a “positive” development, symbolism is not enough to truly support the Palestinian cause. The Status of Women in Light of the Sīrah By Shaykhul-Hadīth, Hadrat Mawlānā Muhammad Saleem Dhorat hafizahullāh The life of Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam is an open book inviting every human being to study and benefit from it. His every word calls towards guidance, moderation and justice; his behaviour and the way he interacted with people provides an easy to imitate blueprint for a wholesome and happy social life. No segment of society has been ignored and the rights and duties of each have been demonstrated. The status and honour Allāh ta‘ālā has given to women, an often misunderstood subject, is one such area that is immediately clarified when the life of Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam is studied. Throughout her life, a woman has a number of roles, one of which is within the family circle. By taking the examples of daughter, sister, wife and mother, we can learn from the practice and teachings of our Beloved Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam, how the female servants of Allāh ta‘ālā should conduct themselves. The Daughter First and foremost, a woman is a daughter. Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam treated his daughters with respect and love. The books of Sīrah note how, when returning from journeys, Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam would first stop at the masjid and then, before going to his abode, he would visit his daughter Sayyidah Fātimah radhiyallāhu ‘anhā. Before the Battle of Badr, his daughter Sayyidah Ruqayyah radhiyallāhu ‘anhā was very ill. His concern for her prompted him to order his son-in-law, Sayyidunā ‘Uthmān ibn ‘Affān radhiyallāhu ‘anhu, to stay behind in Madīnah and care for her. Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam gave glad tidings of his companionship and proximity in Paradise to the one who nurtured two daughters to maturity. The teachings of Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam led to an environment being created wherein people longed to have daughters they could love and cherish, banishing the old custom of burying new-born girls alive out of shame. The Sister Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam did not have a biological sister. However, once when a group from the Banū Sa‘d came to Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam, a woman came forward and declared that she was the sister of Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam. It was Sayyidah Shaymā radhiyallāhu ‘anhā, the daughter of the wet-nurse of Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam, Sayyidah Halīmah radhiyallāhu ‘anhā, and his childhood companion. Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam received his foster sister with the utmost honour; he removed his cloak and spread it on the floor for her to sit on whilst tears rolled down his cheeks and he humbly suggested to her that if she wished to remain with him, she would be treated with honour and love. And if she desired to return to her people he would still look after her. She chose to return but accepted Islām. When she returned, Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam gifted her three servants, a maid, some cattle and some goats. The Wife As a wife, a woman’s esteem increases even further. She now has the status of friend, associate, comforter and adviser to her husband. The occasion of receiving the first revelation through the angel Sayyidunā Jibra’īl ‘alayhis salām was a very testing time for Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam. Despite having the option of going to his lifelong friend Sayyidunā Abū Bakr radhiyallāhu ‘anhu, his uncle (Abū Tālib) or other elders of the tribe, Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam sought the company of his wife Sayyidah Khadījah radhiyallāhu ‘anhā. She in turn did not fail him and proved to be a source of immense support and comfort. Similarly, after the Truce of Hudaybiyyah was struck and the Muslims had to return to Madīnah Munawwarah without performing ‘umrah, it was the wife of Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam, Sayyidah Ummu Salamah radhiyallāhu ‘anhā, whose advice and counsel helped to diffuse a difficult situation. Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam would spend quality time with his wives, talk with them and narrate stories. He taught the believers: The best of you are the ones who are best to their wives. (At- Tirmidhī) The Mother Motherhood brings with it even more respect and honour. Although Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam was an orphan, his teachings regarding the status and rights of the mother are explicit. Paradise lies under the feet of mothers. One’s success in the Hereafter is conditional upon honouring and fulfilling the rights of one’s mother. A person once asked Nabī sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam, ‘Who out of all the people is most deserving of my kindness and companionship?’ He (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam) replied, ‘Your mother.’ ‘Then who?’ asked the man. ‘Your mother,’ he (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam) replied. ‘Then who?’ asked the man. ‘Your mother,’ he (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam) replied. ‘Then who?’ asked the man. ‘Your father,’ he (sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam) replied. (Al- Bukhārī) These examples go some way to demonstrate the respect which Islām grants to women and also serve to expose the falsehood of allegations that Islām despises women or treats them as inferior. Men and women are equal before Allāh ta‘ālā; both have rights and responsibilities and both must be treated with honour and respect. ‘Spoon of Freedom’ Escape tool of 6 Palestinians becomes symbol of resistance AMMAN — Palestinians have always had different symbols to represent their freedom; a spoon is the newest sign that has captured artists’ and social media users’ attentions. After the six Palestinians tunnelled out of the high-security Gilboa Prison, reportedly using a spoon, a large number of social media users, influencers and artists have been focusing on the simple tool used in the movie-like escape. The six fugitives included Zakaria Zubeidi, Mahmoud Ardah, Mohammad Ardah, Yacoub Qadri, Ayham Kamamji and Munadel Nfeiat. A Palestinian-Jordanian virtual artist Beesan Arafat, who describes herself as an artist with “sharp edges”, created a piece of art depicting the spoon the six Palestinians used to extricate themselves from the Israeli prison. “The men evaded 40 prison guards, three watchtowers, two walls, two barbed-wire fences and a pack of sniffer dogs to get to their freedom,” Arafat wrote on her Instagram post. “They used a rusty spoon to escape one of the most secure jails in the country,” she added. The Jordanian illustrator and graphic designer Abeer Anabtawi shared a post of a watermelon and spoon, which are currently symbols of Palestinian resistance that have gone viral on social media platforms. “The spoon has become an icon. With a spoon, the six Palestinians obtained their freedom,” wrote Palestinian activist and photographer Abdalafo Bassam on his Instagram post. Also, Twitter user “@M7rusa” wrote: “Raise the spoon for freedom; raise your spoon for the Palestinian prisoners and Palestine”. Samar Khalil, a Palestinian-Jordanian living in Amman, told The Jordan Times on Sunday: “Although four of the six prisoners were recaptured, the Palestinian resistance will continue and from now on, the spoon will illuminate the untold stories of Palestinians”. The four prisoners who were recaptured are: Zakaria Zubeidi, Mahmoud Ardah, Mohammad Arda and Yacoub Qadiri. The Jordan Times

Court case of re-arrested Gilboa jail breakers After the Israeli army caught up the four Palestinian Gilboa breakers, an Israeli court in Nazareth city was held immediately, and many charges were set against the four Palestinian escapees. What are the charges that Israel alleged against the four Palestinian escapees? The Israeli security forces surrounded the prisoners Zakaria Al-Zubaidi to prevent journalists from taking photos of him during his trial in the occupation court. (There are pictures posted of him with signs of being attacked/punched after they were arrested)

At least six Palestinian prisoners escaped from a high-security Israeli prison overnight, with regime troops launching a manhunt to arrest them, media reports said on Monday. Five of them belong to the Palestinian resistance movement Islamic Jihad, hailing from towns near the occupied northern West Bank city of Jenin. They have been identified as Munadil Nafayat, 26, from Yaabad; Mahmoud and Mohammad al-Arida, both from Arraba; Iham Kahamji, 35, from Kufr Dan; and Yaqoub Qadiri, 49, from Deir al-Basha. The other prisoner has been identified as Zakaria Zubeidi, a former commander of Fatah's al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades in Jenin. The cellmates, serving life sentences, are believed to have fled through an underground tunnel from the Gilbao Prison in northern Israel, which they had managed to dig over the past few months. The inmates apparently coordinated with aides outside the prison using a smuggled cellphone and had an escape car waiting for them at around 1:30 am. “Six prisoners escaped by means of an opening that was discovered in their cell,” a statement from the prisons authority said. Gilbao Prison is one of the highly-fortified detention centers in Israel. An official from the Israel Prison Service described the breach as "a major security and intelligence failure." He said Israeli forces have launched a massive search and believe they might try to reach the occupied West Bank or the Jordanian border. Many roadblocks have been set up in the West Bank in a bid to stop the prisoners from escaping into Jordan, and a large contingent of police personnel, Shin Bet sleuths have swung into action. Reports said the Israel Prison Service was preparing to evacuate the remaining 400 prisoners and disperse them among other prisons in order to probe the escape of Palestinian prisoners. In a statement released shortly after the incident, the Islamic Jihad called the escape "heroic" and said it will “shock the Israeli defense system.” Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum said, “The escape proves the bravery of these prisoners, achieving freedom despite such strict security measures. It's a heroic and impressive action.” Celebratory gunfire was reported in Jenin following reports of the prison break by Palestinian inmates. Source
