  1. Ministry of Health: 14 Palestinians Injured at Gaza protest, 5 shot with live rounds Fourteen Palestinians were shot, Wednesday, by Israeli forces, while drones dropped teargas canisters at those gathered at the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel, the Jerusalem Press reported. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, as of Wednesday evening 14 people were shot and wounded as they assembled east of Khan Younis, in the southern besieged Gaza Strip. The Ministry added that 5 were shot with live rounds, suffering moderate injuries; 2 were shot with rubber-coated steel rounds; and 7 were struck with teargas canisters. Quds Press’s correspondent said that the soldiers, stationed along the security fence stood behind earth mounds, far away from the protestors Medical sources also stated that the numbers may not be conclusive, due to the continued shooting and evacuation of the injured to hospital. Quds (Jerusalem) Press reported that thousands of Palestinians gathered at the mass rally, called for by different political factions in Gaza. On Saturday, Israeli forces opened fire at protestors east of Gaza city injuring 41 people, while one soldier was injured by a Palestinian protestor with a handgun. Source
  2. By: Dr. Belal Yasin for Middle East Monitor Many international organisations and human rights groups have confirmed that Israel imposes a racist — “apartheid” — regime which oppresses the Palestinians. This regime denies them basic rights and exposes them to repeated attacks by illegal Jewish settlers, which increases the tension in the occupied Palestinian territories and within Israeli itself. The Palestinians continue to be beaten, killed and forcibly displaced. On 9 May, the Israeli authorities tried to prevent thousands of Palestinians living in the 1948-occupied Palestinian territories — they are Israeli citizens — from reaching Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem to commemorate the twenty-seventh night of the holy month Ramadan, which is a sacred night for all Muslims. Mass protests followed, and Zionist settlers did not hesitate to attack the Palestinians with live ammunition and hand grenades. The Israeli government encourages a policy of divide and rule, pitting one ethnic group against another, but in this case the Israeli police arrested more than 500 Palestinians rather than the fully armed and dangerous settlers, not one of whom was detained. If nothing else, this was an indication of the institutionalised racism of the Israeli authorities against its own Palestinian citizens. Who are the Arab Palestinian citizens of Israel? Although Zionist terrorists displaced more than 800,000 Palestinians from their homes in 1948, a number of Palestinians remained in the occupied cities of what is now called Israel. According to the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), in 2019, the number of Palestinians who reside in the territory occupied in 1948 was estimated at about 2 million, one-fifth of the population of the occupation state. They live mainly in the Galilee, the Negev and the “Triangle”, Arab towns and villages adjacent to the Green (1949 Armistice) Line between Israel and the occupied West Bank. Forms of racism Although Palestinians in the 1948-occupied Palestinian territories have Israeli citizenship, they are faced with institutional racism. They are not regarded or treated as equals in any aspect of life. Dozens of laws have been enacted to reinforce this racism, most notably: The Jewish Nation-State Law, which limits the right to self-determination to Jews alone within the self-styled Jewish state. Muslim and Christian citizens have no such right. The Israeli Citizenship Law, which states that every Jew becomes an Israeli citizen the instant she or he steps on Israeli soil, no matter where in the world they are from. This law excludes Palestinians from their legitimate right to return to their homeland. Palestinian citizens do not have the same rights as Jewish citizens. Not only have the Israeli authorities enacted racist laws against the Palestinians, but state officials also issue statements that directly affect the Arab Palestinians and their lives, and incite settlers against them. The number of attacks on Palestinians has increased accordingly. More than 1,700 Palestinian citizens of Israel have been killed between 2000 and 2020. The Israel occupation authorities have refrained from conducting any investigations, which leads us to ask how the Israeli police can arrest the perpetrators of crimes against Jewish settlers often within 24 hours, while refusing to investigate or even care about crimes committed against the Palestinians, the perpetrators of which are subsequently usually registered as “persons unknown”? In its report dated 15 March 2017, the UN Social and Economic Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) answered this question, stressing that the Israeli authorities have established an apartheid regime that dominates the entire Palestinian people. The facts and evidence prove beyond reasonable doubt that Israel is guilty of the crime of apartheid as defined by international law. Human Rights Watch also accused Israel of apartheid in its report dated 27 April this year. Indeed, it accused the state of committing two crimes against humanity, by pursuing a policy of apartheid and persecution against the Arab citizens of Israel as well as the inhabitants of the 1967-occupied Palestinian territories. According to the facts backed up by the UN and other reports, the Israeli authorities practice the ugliest forms of racism against the Palestinian people residing in the 1948-occupied Palestinian territories. This reinforces the continuous tension and increases the chance of violence. The UN and its member states are legally obligated to take urgent action to end all forms of apartheid and take appropriate steps against the guilty party. Racism is at the very heart of Israel; its impunity must end. Source

  13. Covering up Palestinians’ presence on their land with foreign trees backfired on Israel and the Jewish National Fund, which planted the climate-inappropriate pine forests that burned in Jerusalem last week (swipe left). These fires — and the over 400-year-old Palestinian terraced gardens that they revealed (swipe left) — expose the lies that Zionists “made the desert bloom” and settled on a “land without a people.” Though many Jews have heard these narratives since we were young, they are actually colonial myths used to justify the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian people and violation of Palestinian land. Zionists ignorantly, arrogantly, and cruelly disrupted the delicate ecosystems with which Palestinians lived in harmony for centuries — and the ripple effects of their disruption will only intensify as the earth’s climate continues to change.—Beginning in the 1950s, the Jewish National Fund (JNF) planted 80 million pine trees for three main reasons:1) to impose a European, “Jewish” notion of beautiful, thriving nature onto the Palestinian landscape, and to literally put down “Jewish” roots as they uprooted Palestinians;2) to provide a “green cover” over ethnically cleansed Palestinian villages, obscuring Zionists’ forced expulsion of 750,000 Palestinians during the Nakba and preventing those Palestinians from ever returning to their homes;3) to physically occupy land, whether to freeze it for future Jewish development or to control Palestinians’ movement around borders and other heavily-policed areas. But the foreign pine trees have proven to be ill-suited and harmful in the hot, dry Palestinian climate because they are thirsty and highly flammable. After fires, they release seeds en masse, developing into even denser and more combustible forests that impede other plants and animals from thriving in the area.Alongside Palestinians themselves, the Palestinian environment seems to be rebelling against Zionist interference and domination. Jews around the world can also help resist by educating our community about the JNF and refusing to put money in their blue box. 19. ‘US left with a bad name:’ Afghanistan’s last known Jew hails Taliban’s return arab.news/gw3p5 As the caretaker of Kabul’s only synagogue, residing in its compound for decades, Simintov has witnessed a civil war, Soviet and US invasions of Afghanistan, the Taliban rule and the group’s return to power 20 years later KABUL: All his bags were packed, and Zabulon Simintov was ready to go. But since the Taliban’s stunning takeover of Kabul last week, Simintov, Afghanistan’s last known Jew, has had a change of heart and plans, saying he does not wish to leave anymore. It’s a stark contrast from his narrative a few months ago when Simintov, in his late 50s, told Arab News he “had had enough,” explaining how he was fearful of the Taliban’s return to power as the insurgents made rapid territorial gains and US-led foreign troops began withdrawing from Afghanistan in early May. However, after the Taliban’s bloodless siege of the Afghan capital on Sunday and the group’s pledge to form an “all-inclusive government” and not “seek revenge against enemies,” Simintov says he has chosen to stay in Afghanistan, his home for over five decades. “A few days ago, an Afghan came from America with a plane ticket to take me (back to Israel). I said I won’t go even if the plane comes outside my home,” he told Arab News over the phone from his home in Kabul on Saturday. “I need to protect the synagogue here. I see no threat from the Taliban side. The Taliban have come; they are welcome! There is no fear, no threat,” Simintov, a carpet and jewelry merchant, added. The Taliban have sought to present a more moderate face since last week’s lightning offensive, but the group was infamous for its harsh and repressive policies when it ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001, before being toppled by US-led forces and prompting many to formulate an exit plan. On Friday, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told a news conference that more than 18,000 people had been flown out of Afghanistan in the past few days. But Simintov, who has served twice in the Afghan army, said he would not leave, despite his wife and two daughters moving to Israel in 1992. As the caretaker of Kabul’s only synagogue, residing in its compound for decades, Simintov has witnessed a civil war, Soviet and US invasions of Afghanistan, the Taliban rule and the group’s return to power 20 years later. The Kabul synagogue, established in 1966, is the only Jewish place of worship in the country after all Jews moved to Herat in western Afghanistan, which once hosted four synagogues. Although information on the origins of Judaism in Afghanistan is scarce, it is believed that Jews came to the region about 2,000 years ago, living in relative peace and harmony in the Muslim-majority country until the mid 20th century. Once a thriving community in Afghanistan, thousands of Afghan Jews left for Israel and Western countries in the late 1940s after the creation of Israel and after the Soviet invasion in 1979. Others fled during the subsequent civil war under the Mujahideen and after the Taliban’s first ascension to power in 1996. Simintov, who was born in Herat and later moved to Kabul, describes the country’s monarchical period, which ended in 1973, as the “golden era” for Jews but also for Afghans at large. “I have no other demand from the Taliban; I want no position for myself. But like other people, want security.” And, perhaps, his copy of the Torah back. Simintov said Khairullah Khairkhaw, the former interior minister under the Taliban regime, “had confiscated the Torah from his custody in Kabul.” Khairkhaw, who was released from the Guantanamo Bay prison in 2014 by former US president Barack Obama, serves as the Taliban’s political leader in Qatar, where the group has its political office. “I will find the contact person for him and get the Torah back,” Simintov said. The Taliban’s co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar arrived in Kabul on Saturday for talks with senior group leaders and politicians on forming a new government. The government council, which was formed to fill a void left by President Ashraf Ghani, who fled the country hours after the Taliban took over the presidential palace, includes former President Hamid Karzai, Gulbudin Hekmatyar, leader of the Hizb-e-Islami political and paramilitary group and Abdullah Abdullah, the old administration’s main peace envoy. Simintov urged the Taliban “not to give any share to these former figures and militia leaders” who have been “behind the country’s destruction” and instead bring together “sound and professional individuals” from different ethnic groups and minorities. “These leaders have given their test in the past, have plundered Afghanistan and looted billions ... Their presence will damage the Taliban’s credibility,” Simintov said. Despite his hostility toward the Taliban in the past, he admits to Kabul and other areas “being safer under their rule,” blaming US leaders for “invading” Afghanistan and “creating destruction and carnage.” “The US is leaving a bad name in history by invading here. The Taliban is back, why did it spend so much money, kill so many people and now leave this way? US citizens should not vote for (President Joe) Biden and (former President Donald Trump); both of them are totally mad,” he said. “Let’s see what comes next.”
