  2. Question: My friends often say or text "Salam" instead of "Assalamu alaikum". Is it ok to say "salam" only? Do we have to reply if someone says "salam" only? Answer: بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Saying "salam" is not the same as saying "assalamu alaikum"; and one will not get the reward of saying "assalamu alaikum" by saying "salam".
