Whirlwind of Life

It is human nature to look for stability in life.  We want stable respectable grades, a stable reliable job, a stable upper-class house and a stable branded car. We also want stable youthful looks. And what about stable relationships? Yes please.

It’s funny though that we look for stability living on a planet that is literally hanging in mid-vacuum; holding on to the sun by a mere theoretical concept known as the gravitational pull – no strings attached.

And as is the way of nature, it always wins. Despite our momentous efforts, we do end up not having stability in life. Our careers go into spiral. Sometimes we are rich, sometimes not-so-rich. Once upon a time we are dazzling with beauty, fast-forward a couple of decades and we are old and wrinkly.

Life and death are themselves unstable. Kids come and change our lives, while loved ones bid us farewells. Sometimes we want a certain thing but, no matter what we do, we can’t seem to get it. And at times we do everything in our power to avoid a certain thing, and end up with exactly that.

Life is unstable. It is not always how we plot and plan. It is a journey into the unknown; who knows what will happen next? And yet it is this unknowingness of life – this thrill of the suspense that the next chapter holds – which makes it all the more exciting and worth living.

Do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know that the side you are used to is better than the one to come? –Maulana Rumi (rah)
