  2. i can understand your pain, but we must remember,as all Muslims they believe in all prophets of Allah,we believe in Isa(as)jesus) so the last law of Allah is to believe in him and his last prophet(saw) if one dont believe in Muhammad(saw) as the last prophet, but only believe there is only one GOD,then their iman is not complete.and if your belief is not complete then you die as none muslim, even if you believe in one god.
  3. Bismillah A DIALOGUE WITH SATAN!! By Sheikh: Aa’ed Al Karny Deep at night, I had this dialogue with Satan. Shortly, I heard the Fajr prayer call. I wanted to go to the mosque. He said: “The night is still long, so take a nap.” I said: “I’m afraid I’ll miss my obligatory prayer!” He said: “There is much time to go ” I said: “I’m afraid I’ll miss praying in congregation.” He said: “Don’t be too harsh on yourself in worship.” Then, I didn’t wake up until the sun had already risen. He whispered to me again saying: “Don’t feel sorry for what you have missed. The day is still full of many other chances.” As soon as I started mentioning Allah, he brought to my mind all kinds of thoughts. I said: “You are diverting me from making Duaa’.” He said: “Just delay it until the night.” Shortly, I intended to repent. He said: “Enjoy your young age before it comes to an end”! I said: “I’m too afraid of death.” He said: “But your life will not end now.” I started to memorize Qor’an He said: “Entertain yourself with songs.” I said: “But it’s an unlawful thing to do.” He said: “Scholars differed on that matter I said: “The evidences from the Prophet’s sayings (peace be upon him) are with me” He said: “But you know their sources are weak!” A beautiful lady passed by, so I lowered my gaze. He said: “What’s wrong? It’s just a gaze”! I said: “A gaze puts me in a dangerous place.” He said: “It’s lawful to contemplate in grace.” I went to the Kaaba (The Ancient House of Allah). There he was with me on the way. He said: “What’s the reason behind this trip?” I said: “To make ‘Umrah’.” He said: “You have risked dangers (on your travel) to do this Umra. Don’t you know that good deeds have plenty of other doors?!!” I said: “But my life needs a change for the better” He said: “Don’t you know that you can’t enter Paradise through your deeds? I went to give advice to people. He said: ”Don’t put yourself in an embaressing situation. I said: “But, my only aim is to benefit others.” He said: “That’s a trap of self-admiration, and it is indeed the head of corruption.” I said: “Tell me your opinion about some people.” He said: “ I can answer you of the private, as well as the general.” I said: “Ahmed Ibn Hanbal?” He said: “His calling to follow Quraan and Sunnah was killing me.” I said: “Ibn Taymeyah?” He said: “His words hit my head like a daily beating.” I said: “Al-Bukhari?” He said: “I can even burn my house with his book.” I said: “Al-Haggag?” He said: “I wish 1000 of men are like him. His way is cure and happiness to my colleagues of Satans.” I said: “Pharoah?” He said: “Oh, to him victory and support we owe.” I said: “Saladin, the Hero of the battle of “Hetteen”?” He said: “Let us not talk of him…he brought humiliation to my sons, and buried our heads in mud.” I said: “Mohamed Ibn Abdul Wahab?” He said: “His messages were like the heavenly fiery stars that were burning my heart” I said: “Abu Jahl?” He said: “The best kinship and brothers we are.” I said: “Abu Lahab?” He said: “We are together in every step forever.” I said: “Lenin?” He said: “Bounded by me, with Stalin on fire.” I said: “Nude Magazines?” He said: “Are my holy books.” I said: “Satellites?” He said: “Make people diabolical.” I said: “Coffee Shops?” He said: “Welcome everyone who is diverted from Allah and the right way.” I said: “What is your duaa (athkaar)?” He said: “Songs.” I said: “What is your job?” He said: “ False Hopes.” I said: “What do you think about the Markets?” He said: “Clubs where my friends meet.” I said: “What do you think of the Socialist party?” He said: “It is with which I have shared all my belongings, to whom I taught all my thoughts, intentions and prayers.” I said: “How do you misguide people?” He said: “By desires, doubts, distracting amusements, hopes and songs.” I said: “How do you misguide women?” He said: “I tempt them towards showing off their beauty, and favoring the prohibited over the lawful. I said: “How do you misguide the Scholars?” He said: “By paving the way for them to admiration and showing off, and by planting envy and pride in their hearts.” I said: “How do you misguide people as general?” He said: “Through back-biting, tale-fabrication, wasting their times in things of no value and in useless cheap conversations.” I said: “How do you misguide merchants?” He said: “By tempting them to deal with bribery, making them hate paying charity and by making spendthriftness beloved.” I said: “How do you misguide young people?” He said: “By making them fall in the trap of love, reckless in following Allah’s orders and committing the prohibited.” I said: “What do you think of “Israel”, the Jewish state?” He said: “Oh, don’t try to backbite and speak ill of my beloved home country, the most dear to my heart.” I said: “What do you think of Abu Nawwas?” He said: “Such a respectful character. His poems really inspired me.” I said: “And “modernity”?” He said: “The inheritors of our satanic knowledge.” I said: “Secularity?” He said: “That’s my belief, and its believers are the cheating magicians and creators of false hopes. We all bear same names.” I said: “What do you think of Washington?” He said: “The state of my beloved ones and the base for my army. Indeed it is my nation.” I said: “What do you think of those people who call to the word of Allah?” He said: “They are torturing me! They inflict a lot of pain and misery on me. They made me an old man with gray hair! They destroy all what I build! They make noise when I speak, read when I sing, and seek refuge from me when I show up.” I said: “What do you say about newspapers?” He said: “Means for wasting people’s time, especially that of the elite, and means for stealing money.” I said: “What do you think of the BBC?” He said: “It’s my weapon. Through it I put the poison in the honey, ignite wars between Arabs & the other nations and flatter both the oppressor and oppressed.” I said: “What did you do with the Crow?” He said: “I made him kill his brother and bury him under earth till he disappeared.” I said: “What did you do with Karoon?” He said: “I whispered to him: You son of the old man. Save the treasuries to win. You are one of the greatest men.” I said: “What did you say to Pharoah?” He said: “I told him: You are the greatest one in the palace. To win say: “Isn’t it me who possess the power over Egypt?”.” I said: “What did you say to the one who drinks wine?” He said: “I told him you should drink this grape’s juice. It is the answer to all your problems. It wipes out your troubles. And don’t worry, you know the way to repentance and its doors are always opened for you.” I said: “What kills you?” He said: “Reading the verses of “Al Kursy” (the Chair). It prevents me from breathing and makes me feel I’m in an eternal prison, in a night full of misery.” I said: “Who are the most beloved people to you?” He said: “Singers, poets that aim at misguiding people, sins doers, and every cunning person who goes astray.” I said: “Who is the most hateful person to you?” He said: “Mosque-goers, everyone who kneels and prostrates to Allah, every pious and sincere worshipper, and every fighter in the cause of Allah.” I said: “I hereby seek refuge in Allah from you.” The moment I said so, he disappeared as though melting into the sand - and this is the liar’s end.
  4. Bismillah Each Breath Am I truly grateful for each breath that I take, For each and every moment that I am awake? Do I thank Allah for my restful sleep, And for the dreams that cause me to weep? Am I honestly thankful to the Almighty One, For the early morning mist, the bright, rising sun? During Fajr prayer, I use my soft prayer mat, As Allah’s servant, do I appreciate that? Throughout the day, do I realize, That Allah, All knowing and the Most Wise, Gives me what I need and so much more And that I have so much to be grateful for? The scent of fresh rain, a small child’s laugh, My sisters who choose to stand for Islam, Each piece of fruit, each glass of water, Brothers protecting their sons and their daughters. A grandmother’s love, a book of hadith, The clothes that I wear, the food that I eat. The book that I should follow, the Holy Quran, Promoting the good and ending the wrong. So I must ask myself every beautiful day, Am I truly grateful for each breath that I take, For each and every moment that I am awake? Do I thank Allah for my restful sleep, And for the dreams that cause me to weep? Contributed by : Fareheen Chowdhury

  8. Bismillah Today 1 year has passed,we love and miss you dad each and every day. We're never ready to say goodbye To someone we hold dear. If it were up to us, dear Dad, We'd always keep you here. But God has reasons of His own And plans we cannot know, And these are always for our good, Though it may seem not so. Our arms are empty and our hearts Are filled with tears and grief, For we who loved each day with you, Now find those days too brief. Yet if we could only heaven see, We'd know you're happy there, And we would never call you back When such great joy you share. And so we'll trust you to God's great care And know some day, once more, We'll hold you to our hearts again When we reach heaven's shore. Your children and mum misses you each and every day, dad..we love you with all our hearts. rest in peace..ameen.
  9. Bismillah About Struggling... A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly. What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were Allah's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon. Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. If Allah allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. We could never "fly"! I asked for Strength......... And Allah gave me Difficulties to make me strong. I asked for Wisdom......... And Allah gave me Problems to solve. I asked for Prosperity......... And Allah gave me Brain and Brawn to work. I asked for Courage......... And Allah gave me Danger to overcome. I asked for Love.......... And Allah gave me Troubled people to help. I asked for Favours......... And Allah gave me Opportunities. I received nothing I wanted ........ I received everything I needed! "fatabâraka-LLahu aHsanu-l khâliqîn" "So blessed be Allah, the best of creators!" Sura The Believer (23) verse 14 SUBHAN ALLAH!!
  10. Bismillah Allah's Pharmacy “Allah is All-Knowing All-Wise"…Quran A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye...and YES science now shows that carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes. A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart is red and has four chambers. All of the research shows tomatoes are indeed pure heart and blood food. Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows that grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food . A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds are on the nut just like the neo-cortex. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body. Eggplant, Avocadoes and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats 1 avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? .... It takes exactly 9 months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them). Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the motility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm cells to overcome male sterility. Grapefruits, Oranges, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts . 11. Bismillah The Obvious Existence of God From the moment man opens his eyes to this world a great order surrounds him. He needs oxygen to survive. It is interesting that the atmosphere of the planet on which he lives provides more than just the adequate amount of oxygen he needs. This way, he breathes without difficulty. For the existence of life on this planet, the existence of a source of heat is essential. In response to this need, the sun is located just at the right distance to emit just the exact amount of heat and energy man needs. Man needs nourishment to survive. Every corner of the world abounds in astonishingly diversified provisions. Likewise, man needs water. Surprisingly, three-fourths of the planet is covered with water. Man needs shelter, and in this world, there is land on which it is suitable to build and all sorts of materials to make shelters. These are only a few among billions of details making life possible on earth. In brief, man lives on a planet perfectly designed for his survival. This is certainly a planet "created for human beings". A person's interpretation of the world rests on "acquired methods of thought." That is, he thinks in the way he has been taught, or, less kindly, the way in which he is indoctrinated. Under this misguidance, he often dismisses all the aforementioned as "trivial realities." However, if he does not side-step the matter, and start questioning the conditions making our existence possible, he will surely step out of the boundaries of habitual thinking and start to think: How does the atmosphere serve as a protective ceiling for the earth? How does each one of the billions of cells in the human body know and perform its individual tasks? How does this extraordinary ecological balance exist on earth? A person seeking answers to these questions surely proceeds on the right path. He does not remain insensitive to things happening around him, and doesn't plead ignorance about the extraordinary nature of the world. A person who asks questions, who reflects on and gives answers to these questions will realise that on every inch of the planet, a plan and an order reigns: How did the flawless order in the whole universe come into being? Who provided the delicate balances in the world? How did living beings, incredibly diversified in nature, emerge? Keeping oneself occupied with relentless research to answer these questions results in a clear awareness that everything in the universe, its order, each living being and structure is a component of a plan, a product of design. Every detail, the excellent structure of an insect's wing, the system enabling a tree to carry tons of water to its topmost branches, the order of planets, and the ratio of gases in the atmosphere, are all unique examples of perfection. In every detail of the infinitely varied world, man finds his Creator. God, the owner of everything in the whole universe, introduces Himself to man through the flawless design of His creation. Everything surrounding us, the birds in flight, our beating hearts, the birth of a child or the existence of the sun in the sky, manifest the power of God and His creation. And what man must do is to understand this fact. These purposes owe their existence to the fact that everything has been created. An intelligent person notices that plan, design and wisdom exist in every detail of the infinitely varied world. This draws him to recognition of the Creator. So you never plead ignorance that all living beings, living or non-living, show the existence and greatness of God. Look at things around you and strive to show appreciation in the best manner for the eternal greatness of God. The existence of God is OBVIOUS. Ignoring it would only be the beginning of the greatest damage we could ever do to ourselves. That is simply because God is in no need of anything. He is the One Who shows His greatness in all things and in all ways. God is the owner of everything, from the heavens to the earth. We learn the attributes of God from the Qur'an: God! There is no god but Him, the Living, the Self-Sustaining. He is not subject to drowsiness or sleep. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him. Who can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them but they cannot grasp any of His knowledge save what He wills. His Footstool encompasses the heavens and the earth and their preservation does not tire Him. He is the Most High, the Magnificent. The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 2, Verse 255.
  12. Bismillah Is Ignorance really bliss? There is a conviction prevalent in society that deep thought is not good. People warn one another saying "don't think so much, you will lose your mind". This is surely nothing but a superstition invented by people who are remote from religion. People should not avoid thinking by thinking negatively or being carried away by exaggerated scruples and misapprehensions. Most people think that they might be able to evade various responsibilities by avoiding thinking and setting their brain to work on certain issues. By doing so in the world, they succeed in holding themselves aloof from many subjects. One of the greatest ways in which people are deceived, however, is in their supposition that they can escape their responsibilities to their Lord by not thinking. This is the main reason why people do not think about death and life after death. If man thinks that he will die one day and remembers that there is an eternal life after death, he will necessarily have to strive strenuously for his life after death. He, however, deceives himself, supposing that he is saved from such responsibility when he does not think of the existence of the hereafter. This is a great self-deception, and if man does not attain the truth in this world by thinking, he will understand, with death, that there is no escape for him. The stupor of death will come in truth. (And it is said unto him): "That is what you were trying to evade! The trumpet is blown. That is the day of the threat." The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 50 , Verses 19-20 The majority of people spend their whole lives in a "rush". When they reach a certain age, they have to work and look after themselves and their families. They call this "the struggle for life" and complain that they have no time for anything as they have to rush around in this struggle. In this so-called "shortage of time", thinking is one of the things for which they cannot spare any time. Therefore, they are swept away wherever the flow of their daily lives takes them. In this way of life, they become insensitive to events taking place around them. The aim of man, however, should not be to consume time, rushing from one place to another. The main issue is to be able to see the real face of this world and assume a way of living accordingly. No one's sole purpose is earning money, going to work, studying at university or purchasing a house. Surely, man may need to do those things in the course of his life, yet there is a subject that he should always bear in mind while doing them: the purpose of his existence in this world is to be a slave of God, to work for God's pleasure, His mercy and paradise. All works other than this purpose can serve only as a "means" helping man to attain his true purpose. Adopting the means to certain ends as the real purposes is a serious deception with which satan misleads man. Someone who lives without thinking may easily take these means as his real purpose. We can cite an example from our daily lives. It is undoubtedly a good act for one to work and produce beneficial things for society. A person who believes in God performs such an act eagerly and expects a reward from God both in the world and in the hereafter. If a person, on the other hand, does the same thing without remembering God and only for worldly interests such as status and people's appreciation, he is making a mistake. He has made something, which he should use as a means of earning the pleasure of God, his purpose. And he will regret this when he faces realities in the hereafter. In a verse, God refers to those who indulge in this manner in the life of this world as follows: Like those before you who had greater strength than you and more wealth and children. They enjoyed their portion; so enjoy your portion as those before you enjoyed theirs. You have plunged into defamation as they plunged into it. The actions of such people come to nothing in this world or the hereafter. They are the lost. The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 9, Verse 69
  13. Bismillah The Noble Character of Muhammad(pbuh) Many biased historians and bigots in the media even today portray the Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) as a bloodthirsty, ruthless person with a big harem. This could not be any farther away from the truth. The nobility of his character and the truthfulness of his mission is plain for all to see if one is prepared to face up to the facts with an open mind discarding all pre-concieved false ill notions. Referring to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) Allah(swt) says, And you (stand) on an exalted standard of character. The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 68, Verse 4 Ye have indeed in the Messenger of Allah a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day, and who engages much in the praise of Allah. The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 33: 21 Let us focus on some of the incidents which took place in his life and analyze his nature by his actions in different circumstances. Once the Prophet was so badly stoned by his enemies that he was bleeding all over his body. This happened when he went to Taif, to call them to Islam. Instead of listening to his words of wisdom, they set the street urchins upon him, who kept chasing him till nightfall. Even at that point, when he was utterly exhausted and bleeding from head to foot, all he said was: O my Lord, guide my people along the true path, as they are ignorant of the truth. Muhammad(pbuh)'s own example was testified to by Anas ibn Malik, who served Muhammad(pbuh) for ten years. He said that Muhammad never once rebuked him. "When I did something, he never questioned my manner of doing it; and when I did not do something, he never questioned my failure to do it. He was the most good-natured of all men." While the Hudaybiyah treaty was being drafted with the Makkans, they engaged in a number of extremely provocative acts. For instance, the agreement mentioned Muhammad(pbuh)'s name as "Muhammad the Messenger of Allah." They insisted that the phrase "the Messenger of Allah" be taken out and replaced by "son of Abdullah." Muhammad accepted their unreasonable condition and deleted the appellation with his own hands. Similarly, they made the condition that if they could lay their hands on any Muslim, they would make him or her a hostage, but if the Muslims succeeded in detaining any non-Muslim, they would have to set him free. Muhammad even relented on this point. A Hadith recorded by Bukhari: A funeral procession passed us and the Prophet stood up for it. We said, but Prophet of God, this is a funeral of a Jew. The Prophet responded, rise. The time came when Muhammad and his Companions entered Makkah victorious and the Quraish surrendered to them. On that glorious day, Muhammad(pbuh), once again, had the opportunity to retaliate for the painful years of persecution and oppression in Makkah, but once more, he showed an outstanding ability to forgive and overlook. He simply pardoned them forgave their past misdeeds. Thus, Makkah was conquered without a single drop of blood being shed. One day, Fatimah accompanied her father to the Masjid al-Haram. He stood in the place known as al-Hijr facing the Kabah and began to pray. Fatimah stood at his side. A group of Quraysh gathered about him. They included Abu Jahl ibn Hisham, the Prophet's uncle, Uqbah ibn Abi Muayt, Umayyah ibn Khalaf, and Shaybah and Utbah, sons of Rabi'ah. Menacingly, the group went up to the Prophet and Abu Jahl, the ringleader, asked: "Which of you can bring the entrails of a slaughtered animal and throw it on Muhammad?" Uqbah ibn Abi Muayt, volunteered and hurried off. He returned with the obnoxious filth and threw it on the shoulders of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, while he was still prostrating. The noble Prophet raised his head on completion of the prostration and went on to complete the Salat. He then said: "O Lord, may you punish the Quraysh!" and repeated this imprecation three times. Then he continued: "May You punish Utbah, Uqbah, Abu Jahl and Shaybah." (These whom he named were all killed many years later at the Battle of Badr) The Prophet's uncle, known in the Qur’an as Abu Lahab, threw stones at him and forced his sons to divorce their wives who were two of Muhammad’s daughters. Abu Lahab’s wife, apart from shouting profanities at him, used to tie bundles of firewood and thorns and throw it in Muhammad’s path. Neighbors threw goat dung on his back while he prayed. In all cases Muhammad would never return abusive language, slander or ridicule any of them. He would invoke God for help and justice, and in many cases ask God to guide them to Islam. Muhammad(pbuh) once said: A traveler who was thirsty saw a well on the way. He got inside the well and when he came out he saw a dog licking mud because of thirst. The man thought to himself that the dog should be as thirsty as he was and so he got into the well again, filled his leather sock with water and carried it out holding it with his teeth. And thus he quenched the dog's thirst. Allah was pleased with this act of kindness and pardoned his sins. The Companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah, is there recompense in the matter of beasts and wild animals also?" Muhammad replied: There is recompense in regard to every creature that has a living heart. These are little glimpses from the life of Muhammad(pbuh) which show his truthfulness and compassion. Verily, those who portray him in bad light are only those who earn God's anger and those who have gone astray.
  14. Bismillah Muhammad(saw) - the Most Influential Person in History From The 100, a ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History by Michael H. Hart My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world's most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular levels. Of humble origins, Muhammad founded and promulgated one of the world's great religions, and became an immensely effective political leader. Today, thirteen centuries after his death, his influence is still powerful and pervasive. The majority of the persons in this book had the advantage of being born and raised in centers of civilization, highly cultured or politically pivotal nations. Muhammad, however, was born in the year 570, in the city of Mecca, in southern Arabia, at that time a backward area of the world, far from the centers of trade, art, and learning. Orphaned at age six, he was reared in modest surroundings. Islamic tradition tells us that he was illiterate. His economic position improved when, at age twenty-five, he married a wealthy widow. Nevertheless, as he approached forty, there was little outward indication that he was a remarkable person. Most Arabs at that time were pagans, who believed in many gods. There were, however, in Mecca, a small number of Jews and Christians; it was from them no doubt that Muhammad first learned of a single, omnipotent God who ruled the entire universe. When he was forty years old, Muhammad became convinced that this one true God (Allah) was speaking to him, and had chosen him to spread the true faith. For three years, Muhammad preached only to close friends and associates. Then, about 613, he began preaching in public. As he slowly gained converts, the Meccan authorities came to consider him a dangerous nuisance. In 622, fearing for his safety, Muhammad fled to Medina (a city some 200 miles north of Mecca), where he had been offered a position of considerable political power. This flight, called the Hegira, was the turning point of the Prophet's life. In Mecca, he had had few followers. In Medina, he had many more, and he soon acquired an influence that made him a virtual dictator. During the next few years, while Muhammad s following grew rapidly, a series of battles were fought between Medina and Mecca. This was ended in 630 with Muhammad's triumphant return to Mecca as conqueror. The remaining two and one-half years of his life witnessed the rapid conversion of the Arab tribes to the new religion. When Muhammad died, in 632, he was the effective ruler of all of southern Arabia. The Bedouin tribesmen of Arabia had a reputation as fierce warriors. But their number was small; and plagued by disunity and internecine warfare, they had been no match for the larger armies of the kingdoms in the settled agricultural areas to the north. However, unified by Muhammad for the first time in history, and inspired by their fervent belief in the one true God, these small Arab armies now embarked upon one of the most astonishing series of conquests in human history. To the northeast of Arabia lay the large Neo-Persian Empire of the Sassanids; to the northwest lay the Byzantine, or Eastern Roman Empire, centered in Constantinople. Numerically, the Arabs were no match for their opponents. On the field of battle, though, the inspired Arabs rapidly conquered all of Mesopotamia, Syria, and Palestine. By 642, Egypt had been wrested from the Byzantine Empire, while the Persian armies had been crushed at the key battles of Qadisiya in 637, and Nehavend in 642. But even these enormous conquests-which were made under the leadership of Muhammad's close friends and immediate successors, Abu Bakr and 'Umar ibn al-Khattab -did not mark the end of the Arab advance. By 711, the Arab armies had swept completely across North Africa to the Atlantic Ocean There they turned north and, crossing the Strait of Gibraltar, overwhelmed the Visigothic kingdom in Spain. For a while, it must have seemed that the Moslems would overwhelm all of Christian Europe. However, in 732, at the famous Battle of Tours, a Moslem army, which had advanced into the center of France, was at last defeated by the Franks. Nevertheless, in a scant century of fighting, these Bedouin tribesmen, inspired by the word of the Prophet, had carved out an empire stretching from the borders of India to the Atlantic Ocean-the largest empire that the world had yet seen. And everywhere that the armies conquered, large-scale conversion to the new faith eventually followed. Now, not all of these conquests proved permanent. The Persians, though they have remained faithful to the religion of the Prophet, have since regained their independence from the Arabs. And in Spain, more than seven centuries of warfare finally resulted in the Christians reconquering the entire peninsula. However, Mesopotamia and Egypt, the two cradles of ancient civilization, have remained Arab, as has the entire coast of North Africa. The new religion, of course, continued to spread, in the intervening centuries, far beyond the borders of the original Moslem conquests. Currently it has tens of millions of adherents in Africa and Central Asia and even more in Pakistan and northern India, and in Indonesia. In Indonesia, the new faith has been a unifying factor. In the Indian subcontinent, however, the conflict between Moslems and Hindus is still a major obstacle to unity. How, then, is one to assess the overall impact of Muhammad on human history? Like all religions, Islam exerts an enormous influence upon the lives of its followers. It is for this reason that the founders of the world's great religions all figure prominently in this book . Since there are roughly twice as many Christians as Moslems in the world, it may initially seem strange that Muhammad has been ranked higher than Jesus. There are two principal reasons for that decision. First, Muhammad played a far more important role in the development of Islam than Jesus did in the development of Christianity. Although Jesus was responsible for the main ethical and moral precepts of Christianity (insofar as these differed from Judaism), St. Paul was the main developer of Christian theology, its principal proselytizer, and the author of a large portion of the New Testament. Muhammad, however, was responsible for both the theology of Islam and its main ethical and moral principles. In addition, he played the key role in proselytizing the new faith, and in establishing the religious practices of Islam. Moreover, he is the author of the Moslem holy scriptures, the Koran, a collection of certain of Muhammad's insights that he believed had been directly revealed to him by Allah. Most of these utterances were copied more or less faithfully during Muhammad's lifetime and were collected together in authoritative form not long after his death. The Koran therefore, closely represents Muhammad's ideas and teachings and to a considerable extent his exact words. No such detailed compilation of the teachings of Christ has survived. Since the Koran is at least as important to Moslems as the Bible is to Christians, the influence of Muhammed through the medium of the Koran has been enormous It is probable that the relative influence of Muhammad on Islam has been larger than the combined influence of Jesus Christ and St. Paul on Christianity. On the purely religious level, then, it seems likely that Muhammad has been as influential in human history as Jesus. Furthermore, Muhammad (unlike Jesus) was a secular as well as a religious leader. In fact, as the driving force behind the Arab conquests, he may well rank as the most influential political leader of all time. Of many important historical events, one might say that they were inevitable and would have occurred even without the particular political leader who guided them. For example, the South American colonies would probably have won their independence from Spain even if Simon Bolivar had never lived. But this cannot be said of the Arab conquests. Nothing similar had occurred before Muhammad, and there is no reason to believe that the conquests would have been achieved without him. The only comparable conquests in human history are those of the Mongols in the thirteenth century, which were primarily due to the influence of Genghis Khan. These conquests, however, though more extensive than those of the Arabs, did not prove permanent, and today the only areas occupied by the Mongols are those that they held prior to the time of Genghis Khan. It is far different with the conquests of the Arabs. From Iraq to Morocco, there extends a whole chain of Arab nations united not merely by their faith in Islam, but also by their Arabic language, history, and culture. The centrality of the Koran in the Moslem religion and the fact that it is written in Arabic have probably prevented the Arab language from breaking up into mutually unintelligible dialects, which might otherwise have occurred in the intervening thirteen centuries. Differences and divisions between these Arab states exist, of course, and they are considerable, but the partial disunity should not blind us to the important elements of unity that have continued to exist. For instance, neither Iran nor Indonesia, both oil-producing states and both Islamic in religion, joined in the oil embargo of the winter of 1973-74. It is no coincidence that all of the Arab states, and only the Arab states, participated in the embargo. We see, then, that the Arab conquests of the seventh century have continued to play an important role in human history, down to the present day. It is this unparalleled combination of secular and religious influence which I feel entitles Muhammad to be considered the most influential single figure in human history. 15. Bismillah Jesus and Muhammad (peace be upon them) in the Bible and the Qur'an (Part II) Biblical prophecy on the advent of Muhammad (PBUH) John 4:15-16 “If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father and He shall give you another Comforter that he may abide for you forever.” Muslim theologians have said that “another Comforter” is Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah; and him to “abide forever” means the perpetuity of his laws and way of life and the Book (Qur’an), which was revealed, to him. John 15:26-27 “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.” John 16:5-8 “But now I go my way to Him that sent me and none of you asketh me ‘whither goest thou?’ But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled you heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and approve righteousness and judgment.” John 16:12-14 “I have yet many things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them now. How be it when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and he shall show it unto you.” John 16:16 “ A little while and ye shall not see me: and again a little while, ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.” Muslim theologians have stated that the person who is described by Jesus to come after him – in the above verses – does not comply with any other person but Muhammad (PBUH) the Messenger of Allah. This ‘person’ whom Jesus prophesied will come after him is called in the Bible ‘Parqaleeta’ This word was deleted by later interpreters and translators and changed at times to ‘Spirit of Truth’, and at other times, to ‘Comforter’ and sometimes to ‘Holy Spirit’. The original word is Greek and it’s meaning is ‘one whom people praise exceedingly.’ The sense of word is applicable to the word ‘Muhammad’ (in Arabic). 16. Bismillah Jesus and Muhammad (peace be upon them) in the Bible and the Qur'an (P1) All praise is to the One to Whom all dignity, honour and glory are due; the Unique with perfect attributes, Who begets not, nor is He begotten. He has no equal but He is the Almighty, Omnipotent. He sent His Messengers and Prophets to guide humanity towards Monotheism; to worship Him Alone, the only One Worthy of worship, and to warn them of the eternal dire consequences of polytheism, associating partners with One Allah and the worship of creatures. Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon all the Prophets and Messengers, especially on Muhammad, the last of the Prophets, and on all who follow him in righteousness until the Day of Recompense. Biblical evidence of Jesus being a servant of God and having no share in divinity Jesus and the Devil in the Bible In the New Testament of the Bible, in the fourth chapter of the Gospel according to Matthew, the sixth and seventh verses clearly indicate that Jesus is an obedient mortal and God is the Master and Lord according to his saying in the seventh verse: "It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord, thy God." In this chapter we read that the Devil actually carried the Messiah, and took him from place to place. How can the Devil carry God? Glory be to Allah; He is above such blasphemy! Then the Devil orders him to prostrate before him and worship him, even temptng him with worldly possessions. How can the Devil even dare such an audacity with God? When the Devil wanted Jesus to comply with his orders, he (Jesus) replied by saying that it was written (in the previous Books): "Thou shalt worship the Lord, thy God; And Him only shalt thou serve." Matthew 4:10 Children of God Jesus never called himself Son of God as far as I know - but he used to call himself the 'Son of Man' (Mark 2:10) although he heard himself being called by that name he did not object as assumed in the Bible - and he did not consider the title exclusively for him. According to the Biblical term in the Old and New Testaments, every God-fearing righteous person is called "Son of God". In Matthew 5:9 we read: "Blessed are the peace-makers, for they shall be called the children of God." In Matthew 5:45 - "That ye may be children of your Father which is in heaven..." God the Father In Matthew 5:48 - "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." In Matthew 6:1 - "...otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven..." In Matthew 7:21 - "Not every one that sayeth unto me (Jesus), Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doeth the will of my Father, who is in heaven." N.B. The word 'Lord' here was translated as Rabb in the Arabic version of the Bible so that people may be convinced that Jesus is God! But if one studies the rest of the verse, one will note that the verse bears testimony to the subservience (to God's Will) of the Messiah (Jesus). Therefore the correct translation should be: "Not every one that sayeth to me, O my Master, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." It is obvious from the above readings from the Bible that the term 'Father' is used for God in numerous places in the Bible. It is never used exclusively for Jesus. In Matthew 11:25 - "At that time Jesus answered and said, 'I thank Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because Thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and has revealed them unto babes.' " Jesus the Worshipper Matthew 14:23 - "And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray..." I say: If Jesus is God or a part of God then why did he pray? In fact, prayer is always from a submitting, needy and dependent one for the Mercy of Almighty Allah as mentioned in the Qur'an: "O mankind! it is you who stand in need of Allah. But Allah is Rich (Free of all needs), Worthy of all praise." The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 35, Verse 15 And in Chapter 19, Verse 93 of Qur'an: "There is none in the heavens and the earth but comes unto the Most Gracious (Allah) as a slave." A Biblical Story Mathew 15:22-28 - "And behold a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts and cried unto him, saying, 'Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David: my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.' But he answered and said, 'I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Isreal.' The came she and worshipped him, saying , 'Lord help me.' But he answered and said, 'It is not meet to take the childred's bread and to cast it to dogs.' And she said, 'Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their master's table.' Then Jesus answered and said unto her, 'O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.' " In this story about a woman from Cannan there are noteworthy points: 1) Lack of mercy and love charged against Jesus (if the incident is reported correctly). 2) Degraded discrimination in regard to the uplifting of his tribe and not for the others. 3) An ignorant polytheist woman debated with him and won him over. Jesus a Prophet of Allah Mathew 19:16-17 - " And behold, one came and said unto him, 'Good master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?' And he said unto him, 'Why callest thou me good? (There is ) none good but one (i.e) God, but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.'" In the above verses we note this acknowledgement of his submissiveness (to God's Will) Mathew 21:45-46 - "And when the chief priests and pharisees had heard his parable, they perceived that he spoke of them. But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared teh multitude because they took him for a Prophet." Here it is proved that all those who believed in Jesus during his lifetime did not believe in him being God or the Son of God or one in the doctirne of Trinity; but they believed in him as being a prophet only. This is indeed one of the strongest points of evidence against those who believe in teh Divinity of Jesus (Incarnation of God) if only they pondered. Jesus: a Servant of Allah Mathew 23:8 - "But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your master, even Jesus, and all ye are brethren." Here it is clearly proved that Jesus was servant of Allah, and that there is only One Master and He is Allah. In the Arabic version of the Bible this verse has been translated so that Jesus is meant to be the master whereas the English renderingis nearer the original sense. Mathew 23:9 - "And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father which is in heaven." From this you will note that fatherhood and sonship is meant to be the relationship between the Lord and His servants: it is meant in a general sense and not specifically for Jesus. Mathew 24:36 - "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no , not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." This is a definite proof that the Final Hour is unknown to any but Allah, thus Jesus knowledge is imoerfect like all the other men; Allah Alone is All-Knowing, Omniscient. Mathew 26:39 - "And he (Jesus) went a little farther, and fell on his face and prayed, saying, 'O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not is a servant of Allah. He (Allah) Alone can cause the change.'" The Compilation of the Bible Mathew 27:7-8 "And they took counsel and bought with them the potter's field to bury strangers in, Wherefore that field was called the Field fo Blood, unto this day." From these verses we understand that the Bible (theNew Testament) was not written during Jesus's lifetime but long after the occurrence of the events described, having been retained in the memory of the prople. Mathew 27:46 - "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, 'Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? (My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?')" This is according to their (Christians') assumption that Jesus cried in a loud voice saying the above words while he was being cricified. This is a great insult as such words could only come from unbelievers in Allah. Further, it is incredible that such words should come out form a Prophet of Allah, because Allah never breaks His Promise and His Prophets never complained against His Promise. Jesus:Preacher of monotheism (tawheed) John 17:3 - "And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou has sent." Mark 12:28-30 - "And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, 'Which is the first commandment of all?' And Jesus answered him : 'The first of all the commandments is: hear O Isreal, the Lord thy God is One Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord, thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment." Mark 12:32 - "And the scribe said unto him, 'Well Master, thou hst said teh truth: for there is One God; and there is none other but He.'" Mark 12:34 - "...he (Jesus) said unto him, 'Thou art not far from the kingdom of God...'" In these verses, Jesus (PBUH) himself had testified that Allah is the One God, there is none other than Him, and that whoever believes in His Oneness, he is near the Kingdom of Allah. Therefore whoever associates partners with Allah or believes in the Trinity is far away from the Kingdom of Allah, and whoever is far away from the Kingdom of Allah he is the enemy of Allah. Mathew 24:36 - "But of that day and hour koweth no man, no not the angles of the heaven, but my Father only." I say: A similar text was quoted from S.Mathew which is exactly as proclaimed by the Qur'an in that none knows when the Hour will come except Allah. This extablishes the face that Jesus was subservient to Allah and that he had no share in Divinity: that he was an incarnationof God, was an innovation by the people of Canaan. John 20:16 - "Jesus said unto her, 'Mary'. She turned herslef, and sayeth unto him, 'Rabboni', which is to say, Master, Jesus saith unto her, 'Touch me not: For I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father and your Father, and to my God and your God.' Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she has seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things unto her." In the above narrative Jesus clearly testifies that Allah is his God and their God, making no difference between him and them in the worship of the One Allah. Whoever believes that Jesus is God has indeed blasphemed against Allah and betrayed Jesus and all the Prophets and Messengers of Allah. 17. Bismillah Did you know Allah is not the 'God of Muslims'? Many non-Muslims have come to incorrectly believe that Allah is the ‘God of Muslims’ – A deity somehow different from the God of the other faiths. It should be emphasized that the term “Allah” has no implied meaning at all of an Arabian god, a Moon god or even a Muslim god. Muslims are not claiming any exclusiveness when they say "Allah". However Allah is simply the Arabic Name of the one Almighty God; the same name by which Arabic-speaking Jews and Christians, refer to God. The Allah comes from the term ‘al-ilaah’. Al is the definite article in Arabic, equivalent to ‘the’ in English, while ilaah means ‘a deity or god’. So Allah means The God. This is beautifully articulated in the first pillar of Islam which is to believe that God is One, in Arabic it would be, "La ilaha illallah" meaning "There is no god but God"
  18. Bismillah Compilation and Preservation of the Qur'an Considering the compilation and preservation of the Qur'an will address some important questions that might sensibly arise. Even accepting that Muhammad (on whom peace be) was a true Prophet who received revelation from Allah, how do we know that we have this very revelation in our hands today? How can we trust that it was correctly recorded so many centuries ago and that it hasn't gone through additions, deletions and corruptions since then? These questions are doubly important because of the claims Muslims make concerning the Bible. If we are to say that the Bible contains true revelation but also the work of men, what’s to stop others making equally strong claims about the Qur’an? On one level, we can point out the coherency of the book as we have it today and how its very nature shows that it must be free of alterations. However, such an approach is not sufficient. We need to examine the way in which the Qur’an came to be written down and collected in one volume and how it has been preserved through the ages. Before we do so, however, it would be sensible to ask whether we have any real reason to suppose in the first place that the Qur’an has been preserved. Could we be doing what people of other religions do and proving something that isn’t internally supported and therefore unnecessary? In fact we find once again that the Qur’an actually makes a claim of preservation. There are numerous verses that make this claim, the most definitive being: "We have without doubt, send down the message; and We will assuredly guard it(from corruption)." The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 15, Verse 9 In this verse, Allah promises that He Himself has taken on the responsibility of preserving the Qur’an. Unlike the Rabbis and Priests to whom the responsibility of preserving the previous scriptures was given, Allah is of course free of faults and perfectly able to guard His Word. "No falsehood can approach it from before or behind it: is sent down by full by One Full of Wisdom, worthy of all praise" The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 41, Verse 42 Of course once we have established this internal evidence, we must consider the external evidence also. Let’s begin this discussion then, by remembering how the Qur’an came to be revealed. The Prophet received the first revelation at the age of 40: " Read! In the name of your Lord and Cherisher, Who created. Created man out of a clot. Read! And your Lord is most bountiful; He Who taught (the use of )the pen; taught man that which he knew not". The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 96, Verse 1-5 After this first revelation, further parts came one at a time in varying lengths. The whole Qur’an was revealed piecemeal over a period of 23 years, the final revelation, which now appears in Surah 5 verse 3, being revealed shortly prior to the Prophet’s death (peace be upon him). As we have mentioned, Muhammad was illiterate and therefore could not have written down these revelations himself. Instead, he had appointed scribes to carry out this task. They wrote on whatever materials were available, including pieces of cloth, leather, palm-fibre and even bones and stones. Some companions of the Prophet other than the official scribes also wrote parts of the Qur’an for their own use. However, we find that the primary method of preserving the Qur’an was not the writing, which did take place, but in fact memorisation. Jamal Badawi explains some of the factors facilitating this memorisation: The Arabs were known to have excellent memory. Not that writing was not known, but they depended largely on memory. So their lineage was based on memorisation; they used to memorise long poems, sometimes up to a hundred verses: they were very good at that. So Allah (SWT), as He says in the Qur’an, “Allahu a’lamu haythu yaj’alu risalatah”, Allah knows best where to put His message. Why reveal to the Arabs, not others, why in that particular point of time? There are certain qualities in the Qur’an that Allah saw it fit that it would be revealed to those people who can keep it in memory. Nobody in the world had as sharp memory as the Arabs of the time. There are lots of reports on that, even from pre-Islamic days. Second, the Prophet (pbuh) encouraged people also to memorise it, so it’s not a passive listening to the Prophet. He encouraged people and you know some of the famous ahadeeth, “Khayrukum man ta’allamal-Qur’ana wa ‘allamah”, the best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others. And people who memorise the Qur’an were regarded very highly in society, in the community. They are the ones who were asked to lead the prayers, so there were lots of incentives and encouragement. And above all, of course, the Prophet (pbuh) said that learning and memorising the Qur’an is immensely rewarded by Allah (SWT). Number three: the style of the Qur’an itself made it easier to memorise. As the Qur’an says, “Wa laqad yassarnal-Qur’ana lidh-dhikr”, Allah made the Qur’an easy to remember. I’m not saying, easy to think that it’s so simple you can just take the Qur’an overnight and memorise it! Actually it’s hard to keep, they have to keep…But the style of the Qur’an, its beauty and connection and rhyme make it much easier to memorise than memorising a book of law, or sociology or psychology. It’s much easier and flowing, both in meaning and style. Number four: the Qur’an was not only recited once. And that’s a good response to those people who say, “How could we trust the memory of people, no matter how many, to preserve such a huge scripture?” No, they didn’t hear it once! The Qur’an was used on a constant basis: in the prayers; in various acts of worship; whenever people have problems, and they have a ruling, the Qur’an was the reference to that ruling. [source] As well as this, the facts that the Qur'an came gradually over 23 years and its interactive nature made it easier to commit to memory. During the month of Ramadan each year, the Prophet (on whom be peace) used to recite all of the Qur’an that had been revealed to date in the presence of the Angel Gabriel, or Jibreel, the medium of revelation. This was the ultimate means of checking his own accuracy, which in turn allowed the accuracy of other memorisers to be verified. They could check it from the 3 daily recitations in the congregational prayer, and of course the Imam, while leading the prayer, would be corrected by the congregation if he made the minutest error in the recitation, as is the practice even until today. In his final year on earth, the Prophet Muhammad (on whom be peace) recited the Qur’an twice before Jibreel to ensure that there were no errors. The chief scribe, Zayd ibn Thabit, was also present. By the time of the Prophet’s death, the whole Qur’an had been committed to writing as well as being solidly established in the memories of several thousands of Muslims, some of whom memorised portions while many knew it in whole. As well as the copies of the official scribes, there were many partial copies of various Surahs in the possession of various Companions of the Prophet, who verified their correctness by reading them to the Prophet. In summary then, we can see that at this stage the Qur’an had been carefully recorded and verified in a number of ways. We should note, however, that the Qur’an at that point was not in a single volume in the order in which we find it today. The Surahs were still fragmented on the scraps on which they had been written down. Today the Surahs in the Qur’an are not in the order in which they were revealed, but in fact in the order they were later compiled in line with the instructions of the Prophet (on whom be peace). During the Caliphate of Abu Bakr, two years after the death of the Prophet (on whom be peace), many of the believers were martyred in the Battle of Yamaamah. Most significantly, 70 people who had memorised the whole Qur’an were martyred, which gives an indication of the great number of these memorisers who existed. After this great loss, some of the senior Companions became concerned that if more such events occurred, the Qur’an could become partly lost or corrupted. Therefore, at the suggestion of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, Abu Bakr set up a committee to compile the Qur’an into one volume. This was headed by the chief scribe Zayd ibn Thabit, who was selected because of his qualities of having a particularly excellent memory and superior knowledge of the Qur’an, and others such as the fact that he was present during the final verification before the Angel Gabriel. The method of collection was very rigorous. All the materials on which the Qur’anic text had been written by the official scribes were collected and verified by the memories of Zayd ibn Thabit and Umar ibn al-Khattab. There had to be at least two righteous, humble and reliable persons who could certify that the text under scrutiny had been recorded in the actual presence of the Prophet (on whom be peace). These verses were then to be compared with the written records of the Companions. All this was done in public so there was no chance that any tampering was done behind doors. The Arabs were not a complacent people who would have sat silent while people changed the revelation from Allah. The Qur’an was compiled into manuscripts, each being one Surah, or chapter. These were kept in the possession of the Khalifah, Abu Bakr. Upon his death, they passed to his successor, ‘Umar, who subsequently passed them onto Hafsah, his daughter and a wife of the Prophet (on whom be peace). During the Caliphate of ‘Uthman, who succeeded ‘Umar, the boundaries of the Islamic state were expanding rapidly into lands where the people did not speak Arabic. The people were converting to Islam in large numbers and learning the Qur’an from the Companions of the Prophet. However, the Companions were teaching in different modes of recitation which although all correct, caused confusion among those with less mastery and understanding of the language. They started branding each other as unbelievers due to a misunderstanding of the allowed differences in recitation. In order to stem the possible conflicts arising from these misunderstandings, ‘Uthman decided to make a standard copy of the Qur’an in a single volume. He obtained the surah manuscripts from Hafsah and appointed a committee of four senior Companions to collate them in order according to the same criterion used for the original task of forming the manuscripts. Dr Badawi states: Historians agree on at least four copies that were made. One of them was placed with ‘Uthman in Madinah – with the Khalifah [Caliph, leader]; the other two were in Iraq – what is now Iraq – one in Basra and one in Kufa. And of course the most important centre for Islam at the time was Syria, and the fourth one was in Damascus. In fact some historians, of course, add to this that there were also copies sent to Makkah – which would be quite logical – Yemen and Bahrain: but the full agreement is on the first four. One of the interesting things is that one of the ‘Uthmanic copies, that was placed in Damascus in the Central Mosque, Umayyid Mosque, was seen by two historians. One is Al-Kindi, who died in the year 850 of the Common Era, and later, even several hundred years, in the 14th century of the Common Era, as late as 1372, the year in which Ibn Katheer the famous historian died, he reported to have seen that also in the Central Mosque in Damascus. The Madinan copy is believed – there is some dispute – to be now available in the Topkapi Museum in Istanbul, Turkey. And there is another copy also that many of you might have seen or heard about in the media, ‘Uthmanic copy also, that is found now in Tashkent, in the province of Uzbekistan under the Soviet disunion at the present time. Since then, the Qur’an has remained identical except for a few helpful features for the ease of reading of those who are not as proficient in the Arabic language as the community of Muhammad (on whom be peace). First, there was the addition of diacritical marks, or dots that make it clear which letter is referred to by a single stroke that could otherwise be interpreted as a B, an N, a T or a TH sound, for example. Then there was the addition of vowel sounds to make it clear to non-Arabs to whom the correct rendering is less obvious. As well as this, the whole Qur’an was divided into 30 equal parts for ease of recitation over the period of a month, and 7 equal parts for a weekly recitation. In summary then, the Arabic text of the Qur’an was meticulously compiled soon after the death of the Prophet (on whom be peace) using the written records made during his life and the sound memorisation of his companions. It has remained unchanged since then, as can be seen by comparing today’s copies with those standardised by ‘Uthman in 646. We can therefore have confidence in the miracle that is the Qur’an.
  19. Bismillah Who Wrote the Holy Qur'an? By Method of Elimination Qur'an, in Arabic, could only have been written by ONE of 3 possible sources: 1 The Arabs 2 Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) 3 Allah (GOD) Besides the above mentioned sources, Qur'an couldn't possibly have been written by ANYONE else. No other source is possible, because Qur'an is written in pure, rich, and poetic Arabic, which was not known to anyone other than the above mentioned sources, at that time. The Arabic language was at its peak in expression, richness, vocabulary, artistic, and poetic value during the time the Qur'an was being revealed. Anyone speaking the classical Arabic ( the Arabic of Qur'an at the time it was revealed) would argue that a non-Arab entity couldn't possibly have written such an extensive and brilliant piece of literature in the Arabic language. Qur'an could only have been written by an Arabic speaking entity. An entity, who's knowledge, style, vocabulary, grammar, and way of expression was so powerful that it impacted the entire Arabian peninsula, the east, the west, and continues to impact people all over the globe today! At no other time, in the history of Arabic language, had it ever achieved its peak in expression, literature, and development, than the time of Arabia during the 6th Century, the time when Qur'an was being revealed. With the Arabic language at its peak, and the best of Arabic writers, poets present in Arabia, it is impossible that a non-Arabic speaking entity would write a book like Qur'an and have such a dynamite impact on the Arabs! Lets examine the three choces one by one. (1) Arabs Wrote it ? What Qur'an teaches goes DIRECTLY against the pagan Arab culture, religion, and gods, that existed before the Qur'an was revealed. Qur'an condemns idol worshipping, but the Arabs, loved their idol gods, and worshipped them regularly. Qur'an raised the status of women; the Arabs treated women next to animals. The Arabs would never write something that goes against their most important belief of idol worshipping. Qur'an goes against most of the social habbits (such as backbiting, slandering, name calling, etc) which the Arabs were heavily indulged into. For example, the Arabs would call insulting nicknames such as Abu Jahal (the father of ignorance). Qur'an condemns and prohibits taking interest on money, whereas, the Arabs freely levied heavy interest rates in loans and businesses. Qur'an condemns and prohibits Alcohol drinking, whereas, the Arabs consumed alcohol freely. The Qur'an condemns and prohibits gambling, whereas, the Arabs were some of the worst gamblers. The Arabs would never write something so comprehensively against just about all of their customs and culture and religious beliefs, as the Qur'an is. During the time of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the Arabs would indulge in all the social habits that the Qur'an condemns and prohibits. How can Arabs then write something that would negate their entire society's norms and ideologies ? Did a group of Arabs or an individual Arab write Qur'an? Perhaps a rebel Arab beduoin, or a society's misfit, or someone with different ideals and norms decided one day to write Qur'an? The answer to those questions are also 'no'. Because, if we read Qur'an, we notice that there is no author ! No individual has his/her name written on the cover of Qur'an! No one in the history of the world has EVER claimed to have written the Qur'an, No one in the world has ever been accused of writing the Holy Qur'an, except the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him), by non-muslims. The Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) was the only Arabian who first practiced, explained, and preached Qur'an, and ended up making a lot of Arab tribes enemies. Any historian, Muslim or non-Muslim would argue that the only possible source of Qur'an can be the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), the man responsible to recite it, teach it, and expalin it to the people of Arabia. In fact, many historians today still think that only Mohammad (pbuh) could possibly have written it. This leads one to conclude that the Prophet (pbuh) must have written it ! (2) Mohammad (PBUH) wrote it ? First, he was illiterate !! How can an illiterate person come up with such a rich, poetic, intellectual, and inspiring text that it rocked the entire Arabia ? Mohammad (pbuh) never went to school ! No one taught him. He had no teacher of any kind in any subjects. How can he have the knowledge of all the science, astronomy, oceanography, etc that is contained in the Qur'an ? ( For example, the mention of ocean currents, stars, earth, moon, sun and their fixed paths in Soorah Rahman; and many other scientific statements that are found in Qur'an, that cannot be stated in this short article) When Qur'an was revealed, the Arabic language was at its peak in richness, poetic value, literature, etc. Qur'an came and challenged the best literature in Arabic, the best poetry in Arabic of the time to produce a single chapter like that of the Qur'an. And if you are in doubt as to what We have revealed from time to time to Our servant, then produce a Sura like thereunto; and call your witnesses or helpers (If there are any) besides Allah, if your (doubts) are true. The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 2,Verse 23 Mohammad (PBUH) being illiterate couldnt possibly have come up with something so immaculate that it even exceded the best of poetry, and literature in Arabic at the time of the language's PEAK development. Arabic language had never been so rich in expression, poetic value, vocabulary, and variety in literature, as it was in the time of Qur'an. At a time like this, Qur'an came and exceeded the best of Arabic in all aspects of the language: poetry, literature, expression, etc. Any classical Arabic speaker would appreciate the unbeatten, unchallenged, and unmatched beauty of the language of Qur'an. Mohammad (PBUH) had no reason to come up with something like Qur'an, and cause the entire society of Arabia to become his enemy. Why would he do something like that? Why would he write something going against almost all of the norms of the society, and lose his family, relatives, friends, and other loved ones , and not to mention all the wealth he lost ? Qur'an was revealed over a period of 23 years ! A very long time! Is it possible for someone to maintain the same exact style of Arabic speech , as demonstrated in Qur'an, for over 23 years ? Also, what the prophet Mohammad (PBUH) used to say is recorded in what we call his hadeeth (sunnah). If we look at the Arabic style of the hadeeth, and compare it with the style of Qur'an, we can clearly see that they are clearly DIFFERENT, and DISTINGUISHABLE Arabic styles. The Prophet (PBUH) spoke in public. It does not make sense that a man has two UNIQUE, Distinguishable, and completely different styles of speech in public. Yet another reason why Mohammad (PBUH) couldn't possibly have written Qur'an. It is He Who has sent amongst the Unlettered a messenger from among themselves, to rehearse to them His Signs, to sanctify them, and to instruct them in Scripture and Wisdom, although they had been, before, in manifest error The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 62,Verse 2 The Conclusion: Qur'an is Allah (God)'s word. The Qur'an has retained its original pure form for over 14 centuries not a word has changed. Allah has promised to safeguard it from corruption We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 15,Verse 9 No falsehood can approach it from before or behind it: It is sent down by One Full of Wisdom, Worthy of all Praise. The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 41,Verse 42
  20. Bismillah What are the teachings of Islaam? The foundation of the Islaamic faith is belief in the Unity of God. This means to believe that there is only one Creator and Sustainer of everything in the Universe, and that nothing is divine or worthy of being worshipped except for Him. Truly believing in the Unity of God means much more than simply believing that there is "One God" - as opposed to two, three or four. There are a number of religions that claim belief in "One God" and believe that ultimately there is only one Creator and Sustainer of the Universe. Islaam, however, not only insists on this, but also rejects using such words as "Lord" and "Saviour" for anyone besides Almighty God. Islaam also rejects the use of all intermediaries between God and Man, and insists that people approach God directly and reserve all worship for Him alone. Muslims believe that Almighty God is Compassionate, Loving and Merciful. The essence of falsehood is the claim that God cannot deal with and forgive His creatures directly. By over-emphasising the burden of sin, as well as claiming that God cannot forgive you directly, false religions seek to get people to despair of the Mercy of God. Once they are convinced that they cannot approach God directly, people can be mislead into turning to false gods for help. These "false gods" can take various forms, such as saints, angels, or someone who is believed to be the "Son of God" or "God Incarnate". In almost all cases, people who worship, pray to or seek help from a false god don't consider it to be, or call it, a "god". They claim belief in One Supreme God, but claim that they pray to and worship others beside God only to get closer to Him. In Islaam, there is a clear distinction between the Creator and the created. There is no ambiguity in divinity - anything that is created is not deserving of worship and only the Creator is worthy of being worshipped. Some religions falsely believe that God has become part of His creation, and this has led people to believe that they can worship something created in order to reach their Creator. Muslims believe that even though God is Unique and beyond comprehension - He has no "Son", partners or associates. According to Muslim belief, Almighty God "does not beget nor was He begotten" - neither literally, allegorically, metaphorically, physically or metaphysically - He is Absolutely Unique and Eternal. He is in control of everything and is perfectly capable of bestowing His infinite Mercy and Forgiveness to whomever He chooses. That is why is called the All-Powerful and Most-Merciful. Almighty God has created the Universe for man, and as such wants the best for all human beings. Muslims see everything in the Universe as a sign of the Creatorship and Benevolence of Almighty God. Also, the belief in the Unity of God is not merely a metaphysical concept. It is a dynamic belief that effects ones view of humanity, society and all aspects of life. As a logical corollary to the Islaamic belief in the Oneness of God, is its belief in the oneness of mankind and humanity.
  21. Bismillah Proof of Prophethood Read through some basic facts about his life and you decide whether you would believe in Muhammad (PBUH). The decision is entirely yours! 1) Muhammad (PBUH) was born with no silver spoon in his mouth. His life began with infinitesimal support. His father had died before he was born. His mother dies by the time he was six years old. He was doubly orphaned at this tender age, his grandfather Abdul Muttalib took charge of him, but he too died within three years. As soon as he was able, Muhammad (PBUH) began to look after his uncle's sheep and goats. Contrast this poor, double orphaned Arab child with no formal education (God calls him "The Unlettered Prophet" in the Qur'an) with some of the great religious personalities that preceded him, and you must marvel at what destiny had in store for him! 2) History tells us that Muhammad (PBUH) was forty years of age when he received the first revelation in a cave some three miles north of the city of Mecca. It was the 27th night of the month of Ramadan. The Archangel Gabriel commanded him in his mother tongue: “Iqra” which means “Read”, “Proclaim” or “Recite”.. Muhammad (PBUH) is terrified and in his bewilderment replies: “I am not learned!” The angel commands him a second time with the same result. For the third time, the angel continues. Now, Muhammad (PBUH) grasps that what was required of him was to repeat or rehearse and he repeats the words as they were put in his mouth. “Read! In the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, who created- Created man, from a (mere) clot of congealed blood; Read! And Thy Lord is most bountiful, - He who taught (the use of) the pen, - Taught man that which he knew not. Holy Qur’an, Chapter 96,Verse 1-5. After the angel departed, Muhammad (PBUH) rushed home and asked his beloved wife to cover him up. When he regained his composure, he explained to her what he had seen and heard. She assured him of her faith in him and that Allah would not allow such a terrible thing to happen to him. Are these the confessions of an imposter? Would imposters confess that when an angel of the Lord confronts them with a message from on High, they get fear stricken and run home to their wives?!! 3) And the Book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I Pray thee: And he saith, I am not learned” Holy Bible Isaiah 29:12 Muhammad (pbuh) was absolutely unlettered and un-learned. No human had ever taught him a word. His teacher was the creator. “He does not speak (aught), of (his own) desire It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: He was taught by one mighty in power.” Holy Qur’an, Chapter 53, Verse 3-5. Without any human learning, he put to shame the wisdom of the learned. 4) Whilst in the midst of the conversation with his pagan fellow tribesmen, God Almighty sends Gabriel with this admonition: “The Prophet frowned and turned away, Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). But what could tell thee that perchance he might grow (In spiritual understanding)? Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him?” Holy Qur’an,Chapter 80, Verse 1-4. The Prophet (PBUH) had naturally disliked the interruption. Perhaps the poor man’s feelings were hurt. But he whose gentle heart ever sympathized with the poor and the afflicted, got new light (Revelation) from his Lord, and without hesitation, he immediately published it for all eternity! Every time he met this blind man, the received him graciously and thanked him that on his account the lord had remembered him. During Muhammad’s (pbuh) absences from Medina, the blind man was made the Governor of the city twice. Such was the sincerity and gratitude of Muhammad (PBUH). 5)” A false man found a religion? Why, a false man cannot build a brick house! If he does not know and follow truly the properties of mortar, burnt clay and what else he works in, it is no house that he makes, but a rubbish heap. It will not stand for twelve centuries, to lodge a hundred and eighty millions; it will fall straight-away… speciosities are specious... “ Thus spoke Thomas Carlyle of Muhammad (PBUH) in his “Heroes and Hero-Worship” Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world today. How is this happening? With the sword? Not even if we had the laser gun! The Holy Qur’an forbids us to use force as a means of converting! “Let there be no compulsion in religion: For truth stands out distinct from error” Holy Qur’an,Chapter 2,Verse 256. 6) It goes greatly against the imposter theory, the fact that he lived in this entirely unexceptionable, entirely quiet and common place, till the heat of his years was done. He was forty before he talked of any mission from heaven. . All his ‘ambition’, seemingly, had been. Hitherto, to live an honest life; his ‘fame’, the mere good opinion of neighbors that knew him... 7) Is it possible that Muhammad (PBUH) might have claimed Prophet Hood in order to attain status, greatness, and power? The desire to enjoy status and power is usually associated with good food, fancy clothing, monumental palaces, colorful guards, and indisputable authority. Do any of these indicators apply to Muhammad (PBUH)? Despite his responsibilities as a Prophet, a teacher, a statesman, and a judge, Muhammad (PBUH) used to milk his goat, mend his clothes, repair his shoes, help with the household work, and visit poor people when they got sick. He also helped his Companions to dig a defensive trench by moving sand with them. His life was an amazing model of simplicity and humbleness. On one occasion, in response to his uncle's plea to stop calling people to Islam, Muhammad’s (PBUH) answer was decisive and sincere: "I swear by the name of Allah, O Uncle, that if they place the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left hand in return for giving up this matter (calling people to Islam), I will never desist until either Allah makes it triumph or I perish defending it." 9) Muhammad (PBUH) and his few followers not only suffered from persecution for thirteen years, but the unbelievers even tried to kill Muhammad (PBUH) several times. On one occasion they attempted to kill him by dropping a large boulder on his head. Another time they poisoned his food. What could justify such a life of suffering and sacrifice even after he was fully triumphant over his adversaries? What could explain the humbleness and nobility that he demonstrated? Were they not due only with Allah's help and not to his own genius? Are these the characteristics of a power-hungry or self-centered man?
