Assalamualykum, shaikh I hope you are in the best of health and Imaan! May Allah always keep you and your family safe! Ameen
Shaikh I want to ask please could you tell me what is the least amount of Mehr Fatimi that can be given? And please could you tell me in pounds?
InshaAllah I’m getting married and I want to give Mehr Fatimi but I don’t know the amount in pounds?
Please shaikh I humbly request you to make dua for my marriage life!
JazakAllah

Depending on the price of silver, Mehr Fatimis rates keep changing. To check out today’s rates, go to the website www.rabetah.org

It is the website of Ulamaa in Batley and they regularly update the rates. At the moment, I believe it’s in the region of 700 pounds.

Below is a slight Tahqeeq (research) of the amount of sliver in weight.

—————————————————-

Mehr minimum: 30.615g silver (Fatawa Darul Uloom Zakariyya: 3/624, Jadeed Fiqhi Masaail: 1/196)

However, according to Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi and Mufti Rasheed Ludhyanwi رحمهم الله : it is 34 grams.
(Ahsan ul Fatawa: 5/32, Tasheel Beshti Zewar: 5/35)

Mehr Zawjaat (Wives of Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم):

1530.87g silver (Fatawa Darul Uloom Zakariyya: 3/628)

Mehr Fatimi: There are four main opinions regarding this:

1)       Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi رحمه الله , Mufti Rasheed Ludhyaanwi رحمه الله, Mufti Radha ul Haq حفظه الله  and Mufti Ebrahim Desai حفظه الله
: 480 dirhams which equals to 1469.6 grams of silver or 47.25 Troy ounces of silver.

The standard price of silver is usually quoted in troy ounces of silver. However, Mufti Rasheed calculates 480 dirhams as 1630 grams of silver.

(Ahsan ul Fataawa: 5/31, Fatawa Darul Uloom Zakariyya: 3/626,  Tasheel Beshti Zewar: 2/35, kitab ghar)

2) Mufti Mohamed Shafi Saheb رحمه الله and Mufti Mahmood Saheb رحمه الله give two opinions:

A)      400 mithqaal = 150 tola=1749.9g silver

B)      500 dirhams= 131.25 tola or 1530.9g of silver.

Mufti Nizam Uddin رحمه الله also gave preference to this opinion.

(Fatawa Rahimiyah: 8/231-232, Darul Ishaat, Jadeed Fiqhi Masail: 1/197, Fatawa Mahmoodiya: 12/27-28, Farooqiya, Nizam ul Fatawa: 2/209, Maktabah Rahmaniya)

3) Allamah Ibnul Humaam (رحمه الله): 400 dirhams =1224 grams of silver (Fath al Qadeer: 3/318, Darul Fikr)

4) Mulla Ali Qari,رحمه الله  Moulana Siddique Ahmed Banwi رحمه الله,and Mufti Abdur Rahim Lajpuri رحمه الله : 400 mithqaal= 1750 g or 150 tola

(Fatawa Rahimiyya: 8/231-232, Darul Ishaat,Mirqaat al Mafātīh: 6/330, Darul Kutub Al I’lmiya)

Mufti Abdur Rahim Lajpoori  رحمه اللهwrites: The preferred and more cautious view is that the Mehr-e-Fatimi be calculated upon 400 mithqaal (i.e. 150 Tola or 1749.9 grams of silver)

(Fatawa Rahimia: 8/231-232, Darul Ishaat)

In accordance to the above the conversion rate is:

1 Dirham= roughly 3.06 g 1 Mithqal= roughly 4.375 g

This is apparently what Maulana Khalid Saif-ullah حفظه الله takes.

(Jadeed Fiqhi Masaail: 1/196, ZamZam Publishers)

However according to Mufti Rasheed Ludhyaanwi Saheb رحمه الله:

1 Dirham= 3.4 g 1 Mithqal= 4.86 g

(Ahsan ul Fatawa: 4/415, H.M Saeed Publishers)
