Be My Valentine

In The Story of Civilization, it says: In England, Saint Valentine’s Day was to come at the end of winter. When that day came, according to them, the birds mated enthusiastically in the forests, and the young men would put flowers on the windowsills of the homes of the girls whom they loved. (The Story of Civilization by Will Durant, 15/23)

Among the most important symbols of this day:

1 – Expressing joy and happiness on this occasion, as on other major festivals.

2 – Exchanging red roses, which are an expression of love, the "spiritual love" of the pagans or the "love". Hence it is known to them as the Feast of Lovers.

3 – The sending of greetings cards. On some of these cards are pictures of "Cupid", who appears as a child with two wings, carrying a bow and arrows. This was the god of love of the pagan Romans – exalted be Allah far above their fabrications and their association of others with Him.

4 – Exchange of words of love and desire in the greetings cards which is sent to one another, in verse, prose and short phrases. Some of the cards contain comical pictures and funny words, and they often contain the phrase "be my Valentine". This represents the concept of this festival after it was taken from the pagan concept.

5 – In many western countries, parties are held during the day and in the evening, where there is mixing of men and women, and dancing. Many of them send gifts such as roses and boxes of chocolates to their wives, friends and those whom they love.

Anyone who looks at what is said about the myths surrounding this pagan festival will clearly understand the following:

Firstly: That its origins lie in the pagan beliefs of the Romans, where it was an expression of the spiritual love of the idols which they used to worship instead of Allah. Whoever celebrates it is celebrating an occasion of Shirk (Polytheism) on which the idols are venerated. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): "Verily, whosoever sets up partners (in worship) with Allah, then Allah has forbidden Paradise to him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Zãlimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers) there are no helpers" [al-Mã’idah 5:72]

Secondly: That the development of this festival among the Romans was connected to myths and legends which no sound mind can accept, let alone the mind of the Muslim who believes in Allah and His Messengers (peace be upon them). Can anyone of sound mind believe that a she-wolf suckled the founder of the city of Rome and gave him strength and wisdom? Moreover, these myths go against the belief (‘Aqeedah) of the Muslim because the One Who bestows strength and wisdom is the Creator, may He be glorified and exalted, not the milk of a she-wolf! The same applies to the myth that their idols could protect them from evil or keep wolves away from their flocks.

Thirdly: Among the ugly rituals of the Romans on this day was the sacrifice of a dog and a goat, the daubing of their blood onto two youths then washing the blood off with milk, etc… This is something that would cause revulsion in anyone of a sound nature, and it is unacceptable to the sound mind.

Fourthly: The connection between Saint Valentine and this festival has been questioned by many sources, and it considered being far from definite. So how about us Muslims, who are commanded to be different from the pagans before them?

Fifthly: This festival was denounced by the Christian clergy in Italy, the bastion of Catholicism, because it was spreading bad attitudes and having an adverse effect on the minds of young men and women. So it is better for the Muslims to reject it, warn others against it and to fulfil their duty towards it of enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil.

Muslims and Valentine's day- Sheikh Mumtaz Ul Haq

on you-tube

It is not permissible for a Muslim to celebrate any of the festivals of the non-Muslims. Valentines Day is an innovated festival for which there is no basis in Islam.

The clear evidence of the Qur’aan and Sunnah – and the consensus of the early generations of this Ummah – indicates that there are only two festivals in Islam: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Any other festivals that have to do with a person, a group, an event or anything else are innovated festivals, which it is not permissible for Muslims to observe, approve of or express joy on those occasions, or to help others to celebrate them in any way.

What’s Wrong with Valentine’s

§  Originally a Pagan ritual which then evolved into a Christian practice.

§  Clever marketing to fleece you of your money by emotional manipulation.

§  Opens doors to fornication and adultery.

§  Introduced to children from primary school (even preschool) thus encouraging immoral behaviour in the child’s developing years.

For these reasons and for the protection of our Islamic identity it is imperative that we shun this evil. When what appears to be harmless fun, later becomes the loss of chastity, unwanted pregnancies, abortions and at times marriage to non-Muslims, then it will be too late to lament and wring our hands in sorrow.

At times, one day spent in pleasing the devil often leads to years of heartbreak, misery and grief. May Allah Ta’ala protect us all from every avenue that leads to Zina.

Valentine's Day Is Haraam...love Itself Is Not Haraam

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=8zGg8De54-w

Ink Of Scholars:

"The way Shaykh talks about love of Allah, no Valentines Day is comparable.

With the 14th approaching people are being encouraged towards haraam, however love in itself is not Haraam by nature. It's like a knife, it can be used for cutting fruit or killing people, it depends how it is being used. Allah has given us marriage to fulfil our desires in a permissible way, as for love for Allah it transcends mortality and lust.

Those who are fortunate enough to experience it will tell you of its ecstasy, yet for us listening to the Shaykh will Insha Allah inspire us to also traverse that path to him. So let us take this time to reflect and plan our journey to our beloved Allah."

Valentines of Heartbreak & Lies!

Every February, the media goes into overdrive promoting love and affection in the form of Valentines. Valentines, like other events that are hyped up by the media, are money-making tools, clever marketing that manipulates your emotions to get into your wallet.

Yet with all this supposed romance in the air, statistics show that instead of Valentines being the day of love, there are more break-ups and divorces at this time in the western world than at any other time of the year.

The media thrives on peddling fantasy as reality and if we buy into their hype, we feel quite bitter when these fantasies do not materialise. For the many whose Valentine’s fantasy are not realized or who do not receive a valentines, this period can be one of the most depressing times in the year. This does not affect adults only, kids in school are more affected due to their relatively fragile emotions.

We need to take a hard look at our lives and see the direction that we are heading into and the challenges that face our children. Take notice of your own feelings and special notice of your children on the 14th of February and gauge the affect this day has in our lives. It is impossible to embrace a un-Islamic lifestyle and not be affected by its highs and lows. If we truly wish happiness in our lives, then it will only come when we put Allah and His Rasool Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam first and choose Islam as our way of life.
