The most virtuous of affairs is to increase in knowledge, for indeed the one who limits himself to what he knows and considers it sufficient will become opinionated; and exalting himself will become an obstacle for him in benefiting and his error will become clarified for him through revision. Between the eyes and the heart there is a connection which means that the one is affected by the other, and if one of them becomes good, the other will also become good, and if one becomes corrupt the other will become corrupt. If the heart becomes corrupt the gaze will become corrupt, and if the gaze become corrupt the heart will become corrupt, and similarly if one is sound the other will also be sound.— Imam Ibn ul-Qayyim

As for the five things that corrupt the heart, they are those that are referred to: mixing too much with people, wishful thinking, being attached to anything other than Allaah, eating one’s fill, and sleeping. These five are the greatest corrupters of the heart.— Imam Ibn ul-Qayyim

Everyone falls short of his wisdom and knowledge sometimes. If this life brought him an increase in money, he becomes happy and elated. Meanwhile, the nights and the days keep decreasing his life term, but he does not become sad on account of this decrease. What good will the increases in wealth bring, when the life-term is ever decreasing?— Abu ad-Dardaa
