Learning Arabic -- The Third Short Vowel

This lesson deals with the final harakat in the language. Below is the alphabet with a kasra under each letter. Please click on the letter to hear a demonstration of the sound associated to the letter / vowel combination.

Recall that the kasra is one of the harakaat. The letter which holds the kasra under it is known as maksoor. This vowel is the English equivalent of the letter 'E' and 'I'. For example, the letter 'baa' with a kasra beneath it sounds like 'be'. Please become familiar with the sounds associated with these letters when they are makssor.
